Merus Power addressing power quality issues created by dynamic loads in a hospital
Complying with harmonic distortion limits defined in G5/4
One of the largest hospitals in the UK was facing problems created by significantly high current and voltage harmonic distortions. The burning of expensive electronic cards and the synchronization of mains and standby generators became challenging.
An onsite power quality audit confirmed that MRI and other imaging machines were major sources of the distortions. When Merus™ Active Harmonic Filters were installed parallel to the loads, they effectively filtered high harmonic distortions and restored smooth operation of sensitive hospital equipment. Both current and voltage harmonic limits comply with those specified in G5/4.
